Small Population Biology Research:

Supported by Zoo funds and grants, this program works hand in hand with those funded by MacArthur (above). Projects in this program focus either on implementation of management policies, evaluation of current or experimental management practices, or the basic science of demography and population genetics. The Zoo is currently working on a $50,000 project, supported by the Institute of Museum services, to standardize record keeping procedures for captive breeding programs.

IMS Conservation Grants

Development of Guidelines for Data Entry and Maintenance of North American Regional Studbooks -
Support for cooperative project, with seven other organizations, to develop and disseminate standards for data entry and management. Data are used to manage populations in North American zoos.

Genetic trade-offs in selection of individuals for reintroduction.
Development of prototype reports and analyses for Population Management Plans.
Use and definition of "biodiversity" - a survey of individuals and the literature.
